Pieta House’s key annual fundraising and awareness event is ‘Darkness into Light’, supported by Electric Ireland. In May every year (Sat 7 May for 2016) thousands of people gather in darkness at 4.15am in locations all across Ireland and around the globe to walk or run a 5km route together as dawn breaks. ‘Darkness into Light’ represents hope and solidarity, as it is symbolic of the work of Pieta House – bringing people from the darkness of despair into the light of hope.
Pieta House has as its core ethos, the provision of a service that is client centred, rooted in compassion and care to those in acute distress. Founded in 2006, Pieta House provides one to one therapeutic services free of charge.
This will be the 8th year of the event. This year for the first time, Sigersons GAA Health and Well-Being Committee proposed Strabane to hold a DIL walk, starting at Sigersons.
Sigersons GAC Health and Well-Being Committee, aided by Shamrocks, took the lead on the organisation. From there we established an organising Committee.
One of the organising committee is Eimear O’Kane,Clann na nGael. If anyone is interested in registering, or finding out more about the event please feel free to drop her an e-mail or give her a shout on 07817428709, and She will happily assist.
